Description

ATTENTION WORLDWIDE AND SPAIN CINDERELLA, LOCAL POST, BoB AND CHARITY STAMP COLLECTORS. When the Spanish Civil War ended on 1 April 1939, Generalisimo Francisco Franco became the undisputed head of state. In an effort to assert central control over the economy and its runaway inflation, he authorized the issuance of local charity stamps to help finance public works projects. The Andalusian town of Ayamonte issued these scarce, imperforate charity stamps in mini-sheet format to pay for the municipal soup kitchens which fed the poor as well as unemployed and disabled war veterans who fought for Franco. These stamps depict the old town hall, and pay tribute to Franco's victory. This F-VF MNH collector's item measures 4.25"x3.5" and is ideal for framing.
