Wow, where do I even start in describing this lot? First and
foremost, I have reached my time limit with this material. I
will be leaving the UK to move back to the USA and need to have
these items sold before then. Otherwise, this lot would have
been broken down myself and sold. This lot is an excellent
opportunity for another dealer to brake down - for either a
starting dealer or an established one. One heck of a
collection for a worldwide collector as well!
To make it easier to read through the description, I'll jot down
some bullet points on the key comments I wish to get across:
- Pictures are worth a thousand words - certainly holds true for
this lot. Please take your time, grab a tea/coffee, and
browse through the pictures. Unlike most dealer lots - all of
the "special" items are moved to the front of the picture
list. Not here! You might find some really nice items at the
front, middle and end. Certainly don't go by what has been
uploaded on directly here on StampWants.
- Even with the above stated, there is still SO MUCH MORE which
wasn't pictured. Simple reason being - it would have taken
1,000's of pictures. The material itself weighs in at just
under 13 kilos (just under 29 lbs.!).
- In terms of breakdown - this is a nice mix of USA/Worldwide
material. I would say there is a bit more emphasis on USA
material but it is a nice mix. Fair mix of mint and
used. Saw some nice cancels scattered throughout.
- One part of the lot is all in dealer pages, cards, glassines,
stock cards, etc. I'd say about half of this lot has been
cataloged (well no value stated, just Scott number). The
other half seemed to be a lot of "bargain" cards. Seems these
bargain cards were put together - no catalog numbers or values, and
sold in cards together. Plenty of storage material (102
cards, dealer pages, glassines, etc.) to make things a lot easier
on someone sorting through this.
- There are a few covers and postcards found within this lot.
Even saw some early Great Britain Victorian covers and even an
unused postal card. A fair amount of USA FDC's were also
noticed. Also a small collection of early Egyptian FDC's
which I found very interesting.
- Some boxes have heavy multiples of USA common stamps.
Excellent material for packet making and even selling.
Someone with patience can easily sell these stamps at $0.10 each on
StampWants. Figure there is a VERY (VERY, VERY) conservative
number of 50,000 stamps here - do the maths...50,000 x 0.10 =
$5,000!
- A note on faults - quite sure it goes without saying - a lot of
this size and magnitude should be expected to have faults.
- Just looking through the pictures myself, I find some interesting
items here and there. The Samoan stamp (uploaded here on
eBay), the Belgian Congo stamp, some interesting Roman State
examples, some Germany and area, etc. etc. These are just all
random items I picked out when taking photos. It's important
to think that if it weren't for time constraints, I wouldn't sell a
large lot like this as I would brake it down myself.
The winner will surely have quite a bit to go through.
Certainly take up a majority of the winter. For those who are
bidding with profitable intent - good luck and I wish you all the
best. For those who are bidding with a collecting interest -
you have quite a sizeable new part of your collection! With a start
of a mere $0.01 - let's see where this lot takes us!
